Prologue
Nguyen Tan Tai
Head of Meeting Organizing Committee
Dear friends,
“The friends who wore battle shirts that day,
At this moment, my hair has turned gray.
When we meet again from distant heaven,
Suddenly we looked at each other, our eyes filled with tears.”
“We meet again, old comrades,
The beloved silhouette of the old land,
Feet walk across rivers, lakes and four seas,
Fighting in poor countryside is marked by pain and suffering.
The camaraderie of the years will always be remembered,
Gathering the ancient fragrance and spirit of a time,
Still attached even though the horizon is broken,
When I think about my homeland, I feel sad.”
Dear friends,
I would like to borrow the words of two poems: “The day I met an old friend” and “Friendship Love” by Tran Hoai Thu and Pham Thanh Tinh to celebrate our reunion, filled with friendship and so many dear memories. .
A long time ago… there was a time when we were “beautiful teenagers” who had to leave the lecture hall and library to join the army after the fiery summer of 1972. That was Class 4/72A, consisting of cadets. 724, 725 and 726 of the 2nd Battalion trainees. The place that welcomed us at that time was famous as the steel furnace of the ARVN: Dong De Quan Truong.
The following is the history of the school:
- At the end of 1954, according to Geneva convention, the French army’s École De Commando from Bai Chay (Quang Yen) moved to the South, temporarily residing in Suoi Dau (Khanh Hoa), and in early February 1955 transferred to Dong De. and renamed it “École De Commando Et Éducation Physique,” then transferred to the Vietnam National Army and renamed “Dinh Tien Hoang Special Forces Physical Education School,” directly under the General Staff.
- By early February 1957, the General Staff decided to change its name to the Army of the Republic of Vietnam Non-Commissioned Officer School.
- In 53 years, Dong De School has trained over 100,000 non-commissioned officers, 1,800 active duty officers, and 12,000 reserve officers, contributing to the development and improvement of combat effectiveness of the ARVN.
- Since the war against Communism, there have been many soldiers at all levels from the Dong De Military School who, when entering the battlefield, fought very resiliently and courageously, sacrificed for the ideal of freedom and lay down forever in the heart of mother Vietnam. Among them are our classmates and people like:
-The late General Do Cao Tri, former commander of the Dong De military field, died in a helicopter accident on February 23, 1971 while flying to inspect a peripheral battlefield.
-Late Colonel Ho Ngoc Can, from the 2nd class of Active Duty Officers of Dong De school. In the positions of Company Commander, Ranger Battalion Commander, Infantry Regiment Commander, commander in the battle to liberate An Loc 1972 and Provincial Governor and Sub-Division Chief of Chuong Thien Sub-Region. During the April 30, 1975 incident, he fought and refused to surrender, was captured by the enemy and shot in Can Tho.
– The late Colonel Cao Van Commissar, former Head of the Tactics Department, the late Colonel Vu Phi Hung, former Head of the Weapons Department at Dong De School, and the following two Ranger Group Commanders were famous as fearsome opponents of the Vietnamese Golden Star Division. Add.
-Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Dang Hoa, 2nd Class of Current Dich Officer with the late Colonel Ho Ngoc Can, Battalion Commander of the Marine Bird Battalion, famous for the helicopter battle to recapture Trieu Phong district during the “red summer” fire” in 1972.
-Lieutenant Colonel Le Quy Dau, from the 3rd class of Current Service Officers at Dong De School, outstanding Commander of the 21st Battalion/Rangers in many battles, such as the death-defying battle of An Loc in June 1972.
Dear friends,
Today, we, the officers who graduated from Class 4/72A, gathered here to meet in comradeship to remember the brothers of the same class who “passed away the nation” and review the happy and sad memories of a During the time of peace, in the early days of the army’s life, he slept, “putting his pen and study behind the swordsman’s work” and once again reminded of two verses marking a place called Quan Truong Dong De:
“I stand forever and practice,
I’m lying down with my hair down, waiting for someone.”
And what more can I say to those who remain:
“Who knows that even though my heart is stone,
Also broken with a thousand tears falling.
The clouds are far away, even though they are used to separate lives,
Looking away is also sad.
It’s a pity that the golden sun is drying the battle shirts,
I go, my clothes stained with red soil,
Rubber sticks to your hair and always smells good.”
I would like to conclude with the poem of Nguyen Phuc Song Huong, Commander of the 3rd Battalion/ 18th Infantry Division, in the song “Half Soul of Xuan Loc” to welcome you in our friendship with Saigon, with endless memories.

“SOLDIER” FRIENDS: THE DEAD, THE MISSING, THE WOUNDED
Luong and I arrived at the Military Cemetery in Bien Hoa when it was almost noon. This place today is unusually crowded because there are many people coming to claim the bodies of relatives in the 1971 Lower Laos battle. We went straight to the main facility of the cemetery, where the bodies of dead soldiers still in ponchos were mentioned, then brought to the preparation room to make it clean and neat. Finally, the martyrs are transferred to the cooling room to wait for relatives to identify them and are buried right at the cemetery or brought back to their hometown.
We passed through a long room holding about a dozen coffins, each coffin placed about two or three meters apart, covered with a flag and placed on a shelf about one meter high. In front of each coffin there is a small table as an altar, filled with incense smoke.
Not daring to look for long, we went straight into the cold room where the body was kept. The mortuary house is quite large, along the walls are rows of iron cabinets stacked high above people’s heads; Each compartment holds the body of a soldier who died in battle. The air was cold and mixed with many different smells. We searched for the name of Tuyen, a high school friend who had been in the army for several years and the family had just received the bad news that Tuyen had been shot in the head and died on the battlefield.
Helped by a cemetery employee to open the compartment, Tuyen’s body was wrapped in an opaque nylon bag. We sadly touched the cold body of our high school friend, silently thinking our goodbyes. We will go home and tell Tuyen’s family that we have recognized Tuyen and will help Tuyen’s mother with burial-related tasks in the coming days. Luong, my friend who was traveling with me, is also a combat soldier, just returned from leave for a few days and will return to the unit a few days later. I don’t know but I can guess what Luong is thinking. We were silent without saying a word to each other. After the compartment containing Tuyen’s body was closed, I went to the door of an adjacent room, peered in and was startled, my heart clenched when I saw dozens of soldiers’ bodies being prepared to be taken to the cold room. The ponchos were still stained with blood. No one can bear these painful images.
Back at the funeral home, relatives of the soldiers who died in battle are also coming. There were pitiful cries, screams or silence next to the coffins lying side by side in horizontal rows. No one is moved by such tragic scenes. The yellow and red colors of the flags make us think of the war going on and the soldiers dying right now. Normally, each coffin will be brought to Tu Si Dai, with soldiers standing at attention and the funeral will be carefully organized; But the Lower Laos war brought back many dead soldiers in a short period of time, so private organizations were not possible.
On the way home, we review our classmates who were no longer there. The first friend to die from the war was Nguyen Van Tan. Tan joined the army very early and was stationed in Ben Luc, Long An province. Tan is the squad leader. Tan shot himself in the head and died because he could not bear the burden of responsibility when most of his squad was killed. I still remember some of my classmates took the bus to Tan’s hometown, also in Long An, to see him off for the last time. Tan was buried next to his family’s fields, next to the graves of his dead relatives. Tan’s father and grandfather, who still had their hair tied in a bun, quietly said little to us and we left after a meal to say goodbye to our friend who had sacrificed himself out of responsibility and duty. That was also the first time I felt the meaning of the words Honor and Responsibility.
We also mentioned Bao, who was also fighting in Lower Laos and had been reported missing for nearly a month; The family didn’t know how to find out more. Bao is gentle and quiet and is often teased and bullied by his friends. Bao eventually joined the military and probably left his body somewhere on the battlefield.
Our group of friends, because we grew up together in the conscription age and there weren’t many people who studied up to the first or second baccalaureate to be deferred for academic reasons, so almost half of the class went into the military and Most are non-commissioned officers or soldiers. When soldiers or non-commissioned officers go to the front, they often deal with the enemy closer, so many die in battle. Those are the cases of my classmates. A friend that I miss a lot is Two. Hai volunteered to be a paratrooper very early, apparently when he was just 16 years old. The night before going to report, Hai stopped by me to stay the night. The two of us went up to the mezzanine to lie down and talk, and Hai wanted me to give him a Green Day Guestbook with pictures and New Year’s wishes from many of his classmates. Hai still returns from time to time, but only when he is injured or after fierce battles. Because Hai is a light soldier who always takes the lead. The last time he returned home and stayed there because he was discharged from the army, Hai was seriously injured, a bullet went through his eye and exited near his temple. But you are still alive and feel pain every time it gets really hot or cold because pieces of iron and bone are still in the injured area. After going to France as a refugee, Hai worked as a street electrician in Paris, France, and had to endure the heat and cold every day that made his brain hurt. Hai’s wife is an extraordinary woman, the child of an educated and well-educated family, and married Hai when Hai retired from the army. Hai and his wife loved each other in a strange way and I still visited Hai and his wife every year before 1975, on the evenings of the 30th of Tet to have dinner in a warm and intimate atmosphere. I haven’t contacted Hai for a long time, but I will never forget him and always respect him for his fighting and sacrificing spirit.
But my first friend who died in the war was Quang. Quang has been with me since fifth grade, when neither of us knew how to read or write. Every day when I go to school, I often stop by my friend’s house. Later, when I went to high school, I didn’t go to the same school but still visited my friend’s family very often. I didn’t know when Quang joined the army, but one day when I visited, I learned that Quang had died in battle and was buried in Go Vap Military Cemetery (later, when there was not enough room, the army built an additional cemetery ). Military Page in Bien Hoa). After Quang passed away, my feelings for Quang and my brothers were still close. Quang has a younger sister who studies at Trung Vuong and all the characteristics of Trung Vuong female students are shown in this sister: gentle, loving, delicate, polite, wise, discreet and very beautiful. , especially in white ao dai.
Quang’s spirit body is worshiped at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda on Cong Ly Street, Saigon. I sometimes visit, usually when I go to a funeral home on the side of the pagoda to say goodbye to my fellow soldiers who died in battle and Buried here before returning to the chosen family cemetery. I had 3 other friends who were here, including 2 siblings who died a few months apart. The officers in uniforms stood at attention on both sides of the coffin covered with the country’s flag along with relatives in white mourning rings, making it impossible for me to forget that the war was approaching and that my friends had really died. much.
Speaking of the soldier’s death, I can never forget an afternoon stopping at Ninh Kieu wharf in Can Tho. While waiting on a stone bench while it was raining heavily outside, I suddenly saw a small boat on the river, with a flag-covered coffin on it, trying to reach the shore. At that time, the image of the wife, perhaps, sitting next to the coffin evoked the sad suffering of the war. That image stuck for many years and I finally wrote a poem about this memory:
Also A Boat Trip
Floating on the river
isn’t it the boat taking the body back to the village?
That river is churning in my heart
It’s raining heavily outside and inside the souls.
I love you, life weighs heavily on your shoulders.
but still has to give your country a few more trips.
The country’s flag is covering your coffin contains body with torn apart uniform.
You have no choice and reluctantly follow the wind up
follow the drifting clouds with millions of stars.
Regretfully, your mother had given her son to the mother land and now
his blood has spread out on the rivers and mountains, so how can he repay her?
Sad afternoon, rain falls, rain rises.
A wet woman sits next to her husband’s coffin.
She must have been lost on a
winter afternoon. Spring is no more, filled with immense sadness.
You can’t help but let the wind carry you away
Why is the soul of a martyr who died sad?
One day love will fade away and your wife might forget
You, the person who has gone down to the deep grave and lies still.
It rains again and again for a thousand years.
Let the white clouds disappear and never come back.
You will follow the wind and drift away.
Heaven and earth keep wedding vows on behalf of and for your wife.
Indeed, the late husband probably wouldn’t care if his wife took another step forward after having to accept sacrifices for him.
I was postponed due to academic reasons while in college, so I was often in Saigon many days a week. I have many friends in the army, so my fellow soldiers often come to find me for a few short days on leave. When we met, my friend didn’t talk much about the battles and just wanted to enjoy happy times in Saigon. I’m also not a “moral” person, so I tend to follow my friends’ wishes when meeting each other and meeting women, drinking wine, beer, and coffee are very natural entertainments. Speaking of drinking coffee with soldiers on leave, I would like to send you a fun article. I wrote a long time ago about drinking coffee at a shop with beautiful owners from Da Lat to Saigon:
DRINK COFFEE AT DA LAT SHOP
When my soldier friends return to the city, sooner or later they have to go to cafes to “relieve the bitterness” after their days at the front. One of these friends went to the army, leaving behind a neighbor with a very poetic “one-sided” love. Back then, my friend dared to give his neighbor a poem with this line:
“Fifteen full moons or sixteen
full moons? Is the moon full at your age?”
He gave me the poem, but she was probably still too young, so she probably remained silent and didn’t dare to answer.
Then my friend fell in love.
Then my friend joined the army.
Then my friend came back from time to time…to visit me.
One of the cafes that my friend likes to go to is in Dalat on the side of Cong Hoa Stadium, located in a villa of a family living in Dalat. Because I constantly go in and out of Saigon and also have to welcome friends with many different “requests”, I also know many places. From restaurants like Tu Hai on Bui Vien Street, to some music tea rooms, then to art cafes, etc. I have friends who are paradoxical and just want to go…to the sauna. That’s just death. Probably lying on the ground exposed to dew a lot made his skin smell like a burned rag. Sitting in the car smelled like the pot of braised meat was overheated.
Back to the story of the heartbroken friend; This guy is very strange. When I go to Dalat cafes, I just like to drink beer, then coffee and sit still. The shop has 3 sisters taking care of it, the one with long hair (or short, I don’t remember) really looks…like the girl next door, so my friend just likes to hang out in that shop every day. When I return to Saigon to see some beauties from Da Lat. Each of his sitting sessions lasted about three or four hours, and he sat on low wooden chairs to make it look artistic, so Saigon people like me, no matter how much I loved him, still felt pain.
I remember that day he was sitting slouched with his back against the wall, legs stretched out next to his second or third cup of coffee at the table on the porch, when the sound of Khanh Ly singing the song Nang Thuy Tinh rang out in the shop. Maybe that was the first time I heard Khanh Ly sing this song. It’s afternoon and the sun’s rays are shining into the porch. KL’s voice at that time was light and airy. My kids naturally quieted down to listen. The shop owner also looked blankly at the street. You have to be in the mood of those lives that are not perfect or are drawn into war to understand that afternoon, an afternoon with friends, with the Dalat restaurant owners, with Khanh Ly, with Nang Thuy Tinh. .
…
After a while of music, my friend mumbled a poem. No one listens but still reads it. And the afternoon was like that.
Then the “Fire Red Summer” of 1972 happened, the government of the Republic of Vietnam decided to mobilize troops and now it was my turn to join the army. I left the school where I was teaching to report to Ngu Quang Trung Immigration Center in Go Vap. I am not unfamiliar with this center because a few years ago, I received “military school” training once a month for 4 consecutive years here. I also got used to the military school’s “termite fish soup” food as well as the cans of braised meat I brought at home to share, and occasionally walked down to the dining club on free evenings. This center is also famous for the rows of Ba Dau trees planted next to the trenches that students must “scrunch” at 5 o’clock every morning. The mischievous students also visit the club’s backyard every night to hear the sound of water pouring on the salesgirls’ bodies; Probably for bathing because no one saw it to tell the story.
Being transferred to Dong De military school in Nha Trang because Thu Duc military school had no more space, I felt happy to be away from Saigon during my training period. Here, I met and got to know friends that I really appreciate because of the same circumstances, they are encouraging and easy to understand.
The training course began in August 1972 and ended in May 1973, during which about a month or so the trainees were sent to the provinces to do civil service work, explaining the Paris Agreement to many parties. signed on March 13, 1973 for the people, at meetings of people in the village, hamlet or commune. One cadet of the battalion who passed away during his time as a civil service officer was Nguyen Duc Thanh, whom Hoang Ngoc Cuong and Ha Duong Cu mentioned in this special issue.
After completing the course, I was seconded to continue teaching. During my time in the military school, I made close friends who, after graduating, often visited me when I was on leave, just like the friends from before. I took my friends out for entertainment during our short vacations in Saigon, mostly Cuong and Hoang, but usually to drink coffee and reminisce about things in the military. But sad things happen. I heard that Vuong was seriously injured in a battle and is at home. Diep and I visited Vuong at Khanh Hoi and heard Vuong talk about the battle and when he was injured. Proud, calm and gentle. I also could not contact Vuong until the day the war ended and did not meet again until nearly 50 years later. I also heard that Cuong was injured in the last days of the war. Fortunately, Cuong also gradually recovered.
A high school friend near my house that I cannot help but mention in this article is Dien, a person with a very bright smile and a very optimistic love of life. Dien joined the Air Force, worked as a helicopter pilot, specialized in landing and loading soldiers on the battlefield, under the bullets of the communist army. He went missing on the way to evacuate from Pleiku and was not present during the prisoner exchanges with the Vietnamese communists, so his family had no hope of Dien surviving. Dien still doesn’t have a lover to share his joys and sorrows with. I also wrote a poem that musician Mai Dang set to music and sent to Dien’s younger brothers, with lines like:
Tonight in the deep forest
Rain poured down the old stream again
For many years, the rain continued to permeate the young soldier’s body
The rain has taken away your once confused mind
The rain has taken away your sobbing heart
The rain faded away the letters hidden in your chest
The rain has rotted the poncho
The rain melts the soldier’s ID card
Rain sadly falls on soft bones
The soldiers of the past have nothing left
Why does the forest rain keep pouring down into the same streams?
I write this article to remember my friends in the army who have died and have gone missing; to thank our friends in the military who have sacrificed part of their bodies for the country, and to have fun with the friends we still have the opportunity to talk to or meet. Although I did not directly participate, from childhood until I left Vietnam and until now, I have been surrounded by this war.
A “war with weapons” in Vietnam ended in 1975 and an ideological war between “socialist communists” and “non-communists” among the people began in 1975, It’s been nearly 50 years now. This humane and silent war has ended, and which ideology and ideology has won the hearts of the people?
(what the hack are you doing, guy?).

“Must give up the Communist Party of Vietnam”! It will be the first step to becoming an intellectual
Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CSVN) have been plotting to eliminate intellectuals since the early days of the party’s founding but still hide it to take advantage of them. The following is an excerpt from “Ho Chi Minh: Complete Tap”: “On the occasion of the Vietnamese delegation coming to the Soviet Union to attend the 5th Congress of the Congress, on September 5, 1930, Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter to Vietnamese students in the Soviet Union, highlighting the building of solidarity between students in the Soviet Union and representatives, in order to “not let people see the distinction between intellectuals and proletarians”.
Mao Zedong (MTD) was the first person to write the sentence “Intellectuals are not worth as much as a piece of content” and the Communist Party of Vietnam has repeated this saying many times as a gift to the people “proletarians, poor peasants, but masters.” “father of the country” and is a direct way of disparaging the role of “educated” members as not worth as much as human excrement.
Opposing “intellectuals” is the leading action and policy of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the MTD is the embodiment of this opposition. During the “cultural revolution” in China, the Red Guards constantly mentioned this saying of the MTD: “The bourgeoisie is skin, intellectuals are hair. When the skin dies, the hair no longer exists”; and the petty bourgeoisie at that time were the targets of humiliation and destruction by the Chinese Communist Party.
The story is told of a man who washed his slippers when stepping out of the pig barn and was scolded by the guard:
“Your brain is dirtier than a pigsty and more corrupt than that! Don’t wash your sandals anymore. It is a bourgeois habit. Clean your brains instead of your sandals!” (the above paragraph is taken verbatim from the internet – author’s name unknown)
Many writers and university professors have committed suicide because of harassment by members of the Communist Party of China.”
The same goes for the Vietnamese Communist Party, which also stereotyped the Chinese Communist Party to disparage intellectuals. Not only did the Vietnamese Communist Party criticize them, they also punished those who were called intellectuals.
In fact, in reality and the events that have occurred, does the Vietnamese Communist Party consider intellectuals to be useless, not equal to a piece of content?
If we define intellectuals as people who are educated and use the learning and experience from that learning to apply in the living environment to not only make a healthy living for themselves, but also contribute to the human development of the people around them in particular, and society in general, (further reading material: “The Commitment of the Intellectual” by Paul Alexandre Baran), the Communist Party of Vietnam has had “contacts” with the This intellectual takes on the following forms:
- RELATIONSHIP OF THE VN COMMUNIST PARTY WITH INTELLECTUALS UNTIL ACCESSING CAPITALIST (before 1990)
Asked for the Intellectuals’ Help From the Beginning
One of the “first intellectuals of the Vietnamese Communist Party”, with “degrees” from France and the Soviet Union of the Communist Party of Vietnam, was Tran Phu, also the first General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1930 (Indochina Communist Party at that time). ). Tran Phu was 14 years younger than Ho Chi Minh, but was entrusted with the role of a theorist, drafting the Indochina Communist Party Platform when Tran Phu was only 26 years old. But just one year later, 1931, Tran Phu died. Of course, the Vietnamese communists blame the French for killing Tran Phu, but we will never know the truth about the sudden death at the age of 27 of this young intellectual communist after completing one of his duties as a communist. The game requires knowledge and education.
Ho Chi Minh was not an intellectual in terms of qualifications and perhaps in HCM’s mind, he understood that true intellectuals would see their role eliminated after communism. Revealing the truth, bringing the proletariat to denounce the “intellectuals” who have status and property, so Ho Chi Minh wrote a letter to Vietnamese students attending the 5th “Communist – Trade Union” congress. , in 1930 in the Soviet Union, called on them to unite and ” not let people see the distinction between intellectuals and proletarians “.
Who is the “people” in the above sentence? Are “people” the people of Vietnam? Or were people who were not communists at that time? Or is it the “intellectuals” that HCM is trying to “flatter”, “lull”, “deceive” and “reform their minds”? from the early days of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The death of Tran Phu, an early important theorist of the Communist Party of Vietnam, was further evidence for “suspicion of the nature of communist destruction of intellectuals”. The reason for “adding to suspicion” is because a few years ago, many intellectuals had organizations that stood outside and opposed the Communist Party of Vietnam because they did not believe in the national stance of the Communist Party, of which the Vietnam Nationalist Party was the one of the above mentioned organizations. The Communist Party of Vietnam began to expand in the late 1920s. Also in the late years of that decade, the Vietnam Nationalist Party had to operate in the shadows since 1926 after Nguyen Thai Hoc and 12 comrades were executed by the French. after the uprising failed. However, there are still many “intellectuals” who follow the Communist Party of Vietnam and let them lead. By the time they know the truth of the Communist Party of Vietnam, it is often too late.
During the years of the people’s resistance war against the French (1945-1954), if it were not for the artists and writers who contributed (some of them can be called intellectuals) their works through Poems, Essays, music, and plays to incite the masses, it is impossible for the anti-French movement to reach every corner of the village. These elements were also the first to organize the activities and governance structures of the Communist Party of Vietnam – which at that time was still hiding the truth. Before and after 1954, many artists and intellectuals left the Communist ranks and stayed within the Communist Party or migrated to the South.
Fear of Intellectual People
Like the MTD, the Vietnamese Communists never trust intellectuals for the reason that they themselves do not trust each other, each person watches over the other, this group watches over the other group, and intellectuals are wise so they need to watch out even more. about more. The party structure is a structure not based on democratic elections but on the forces of individuals, groups and intellectuals who can reason and clearly see this black heart of the Vietnamese Communist Party and cannot shut it up. mouth if they belong to the real intellectuals. The Communist Party of Vietnam also saw this time bomb nearby, so they only used them when needed, and when they were no longer needed, the Communist Party of Vietnam immediately sought to eliminate those who, if left behind, would sooner or later speak out against them or take off the mask of the Communist Party of Vietnam. .
The repression of intellectuals in the Nhan Van Giai Pham group (1955-1958) showed that the Vietnamese Communists were afraid of being exposed in their dictatorial policies. These elements see the dictatorship of the Communist Party of Vietnam and intend to speak out this truth. Because some party members of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the early periods were also “intellectuals”, they clearly understood the implications and stance of the Nhan Van Giai Pham group and wanted to extinguish these fires before they broke out. explode. explode. Communist Party members and intellectuals at that time all understood each other’s true faces, but one group held the power of life and death in their hands (the Communist Party of Vietnam) and the other group had only the weapon of a pen (intellectuals, writers , and artists). ) so the writers were excluded, whose history has proven. The fear of people knowing their true face has pushed the Vietnamese Communist Party to an attitude that it is impossible to let these elements live with them.
Taking advantage of and taking revenge on intellectuals
The Communist Party of Vietnam knows the abilities of intellectuals and also knows that without these people, they cannot run the country because the country is not just reduced to a party and there are many problems to face. and solving, requires a lot of specialized knowledge and complex organization that only intellectuals are capable of providing for these administrative needs.
In addition, the Vietnamese Communist Party also knows that the majority of “intellectuals” also want to be respected, so they have recruited this group to implement their goals, until they no longer need them or until the members This intellectual part becomes dangerous for the Vietnamese Communist Party. At that time, the Vietnamese Communist Party did not hesitate to eliminate this intellectual element from their ranks. The late lawyer Nguyen Manh Tuong is a typical example. Until 1956, the Communist Party of Vietnam sent him to represent the Communist Party of Vietnam to attend many international conferences because of his ability, but then, since 1957, when he disagreed with the Communist Party of Vietnam about the lack of rule of law in the law. land reform, he was mistreated and lived in poverty, without use, until his death. He was too confident in his role as a “diplomatic representative for the party”, but only after 1957 did he clearly understand the role of an intellectual in the industrial heart. He said: “I never joined the Viet Minh Front. I have always been a patriot, always concerned about regaining independence for the country. However, I have determined for myself a position that is to be an intellectual. If an intellectual wants to be independent, he or she should not participate in politics. An intellectual must stand on the side of the people, not on the side of the government.”
In the period before and during the resistance war against the French as well as immediately after the French left Vietnam, the majority of intellectuals had political organizations or joined revolutionary parties with the same goal: drive the French out of Vietnam. They did not hesitate to stand with the Communist Party of Vietnam in the goal of fighting this common enemy, and in the end, because they did not expect the cruelty and cunning of the Communist Party of Vietnam, many party members were killed by the Communist Party of Vietnam. Just a few days after the Communist Party of Vietnam seized power from the Tran Trong Kim government and established a new ruling body, the Communist Party issued Decree 08-SL dated September 5, 1945 disbanding the two main parties that had joined the Communist Party of Vietnam to fight against the government. France, that is to eliminate the Dai Viet National Socialist Party and the Dai Viet Nationalist Party, and anyone who still operates in the name of these two parties will be brought to the People’s Court to be punished. These two parties combined many intellectual and patriotic party members, and were therefore eliminated immediately after the Vietnamese Communists took power.
The Vietnamese communists kill intellectuals to eliminate “future” dangers and take revenge on intellectuals even though these feuds do not yet exist. This policy of destruction and revenge is due to the chronic suspicion that the Vietnamese Communist Party has always had towards intellectuals. Those are the intellectual inferiority complexes that the Vietnamese Communist Party has always had towards the intellectuals of the nation. An example of this is deceased poet and communist prisoner Nguyen Chi Thien; was imprisoned for many years because while teaching, he told the truth about World War II
Why does the Vietnamese Communist Party need intellectuals?
As mentioned generally above, an obvious reason is that these components “know how to reason” and know how to “raise and solve problems”, from economics, culture to society through their education. . The CSV leadership class only knows how to make “ambitions” and “wishes” and if there is no one to carry out those “wishes” in a regular and effective way, the results will be unimaginable. Many years of lack of intellectuals have stagnated the progress of the Vietnamese Communist Party after 1954 above the 17th parallel, and after 1975 below the 17th parallel along with the whole country until today. A typical example of the failure of policy if it falls into the hands of an uneducated person is that after the country fell to the Vietnamese Communist Party in 1945, the person nominated by the party to take care of cultural issues for the “government” of Ho Chi Minh proposed a simple and optimistic illiteracy improvement program and gave false results that after only 1 year, the target of 90% of Vietnamese people being able to read and write had been achieved. Failure and error, because after that year, the Communist Party of Vietnam went “backwards”, each year the number of children dropping out of school increased, even after 60 years since “our people ended illiteracy”. It is right to put a person, or “non-intellectual” people, in a role that “needs” intellectuals like in the Education sector to achieve such “superior” results.
Up to now, the Communist Party of Vietnam has known the important role of the intellectuals and the necessity of this class in all government organizational structures. Necessary but always suspicious.
Deliberately Divide Intellectuals from Other Groups of People
During the first decades of power, the Communist Party of Vietnam closely followed communism by promoting the Proletariat and cunningly used the proletariat to destroy the intellectuals. With a force consisting of the majority of the people and with the close support of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the working class outside North Vietnam in those years (they were honored by the Communist Party of Vietnam as the poor and proletarian class), sought How to destroy not only intellectuals, but also those related to intellectuals and those with fortunes. The Communist Party of Vietnam has hit upon the general psychology of the masses, which is the jealousy and opposition of the poor to the wealthy and educated, while at the same time the Communist Party of Vietnam promotes the proletariat as a leader. force of the revolution, to create a class struggle whose beneficiary is none other than the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Partly because of being destroyed, partly because of having to hide and not daring to speak up, for several decades, Northern Vietnam has lacked intellectuals in the role of building the country, and as a result, the nation has made slow progress. over half a century, compared to countries with the same human and resource situation.
- The Vietnamese Communists REALIZE THE VALUE OF CAPITALIST INTELLECTUALITY AND WANT TO BECOME A CAPITALIST INTELLECTUAL
Over the past 20 years (after 1990), the concept of intellectuals of the Communist Party of Vietnam has completely changed, not necessarily because of the change of the Communist Party of Vietnam but because of the needs and personal interests of the majority of party members.
The continuous failures of the Communist Party of Vietnam in its efforts to reform the country in a socialist environment, under the “guidance and direction” of Marxism-Leninism, have not brought results to the country in all aspects. is when the party compares Vietnam’s progress with neighboring non-communist countries such as South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore. Then, at that very moment, the wave of money pouring in from abroad was like a buoy that saved the Vietnamese Communist Party from suffocating due to lack of air in a flooded lung filled with socialist residue.
Like a hungry person after being fed, the Vietnamese Communists now have enough strength and wake up to realize where the source of income is to save their lives. Not from communism, not from fraternal communist countries, but from Vietnamese refugees all over the world.
The Vietnamese communists realized that the group of overseas Vietnamese (NVHN) had left empty-handed but had more than a decade of money to give to their relatives. The Vietnamese Communist Party cannot stop the people from knowing that and the people have compared and realized which ideology has brought profits to the people, capitalist or communist. Not only the people but also members of the Communist Party of Vietnam from top to bottom are also aware of this immediate benefit. This perception and comparison based on “visible profits” is the first source of the corruption of socialism, which has stagnated. At this time, from party members to ordinary people, everyone is looking for opportunities to collect as much money as possible to send back from abroad.
Aware of the “money” value of Vietnamese workers living in “capitalist” countries and the success of Vietnamese workers, the Vietnamese Communist Party has secretly recognized the value of “education” and the value of “professional” degrees. not only in the fields of Medicine and Engineering but also in other fields such as Economics, Society, Psychology, Language, Computing, Administration, Accounting, Commerce, Management, etc. from countries in the world. capitalist block. People who graduate from these fields must be called “capitalist intellectuals” by the Vietnamese Communist Party, not Marxist intellectuals.
The Vietnamese Communist Party has long followed the Chinese model, placing learning the ideology of Communism as the first and only “intellectual” goal of every class. The “secretaries” or thinkers of the Communist Party are considered the brains in all leadership structures from central to local levels. (Now, that definition of intellectuals filled with communist ideology has gradually been forgotten)
The Vietnamese Communist Party or Communist Party members have massively sent people to “capitalist” countries, especially the United States, to study all fields. Their goal is to send tens of thousands of students abroad in the next few years, not including the over 30,000 students currently studying abroad (General Statistics Office, Vietnam).
A typical example of “sending people abroad” to “renovate domestically” is a training program for senior education officials of the Ministry of Labor of the Communist Party of Vietnam (2016). The Communist Party of Vietnam has highlighted the role of innovation. capitalist countries through this program Below is an excerpt from the official announcement of the Ministry of Labor of Vietnam (2016):
“….With the spirit of being ahead of the curve in improving the quality of teaching staff, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the University have a plan to send staff to study abroad at the highest level. Master’s degrees and doctorates in key fields that currently do not exist in Vietnam. For example, two officials of the Ministry were sent to the US to study for doctorates in specialized subjects of social work, after completing the program. program will be enhanced for the school.”
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is the ministry that symbolizes Socialist Republic. It is the foundation for the pride of the Vietnamese Communist Party because it is the ministry that, in the name of socialism, must be able to “take care of the poor” and “care for the youth”, according to the theory of Communism. But this ministry has failed. moving away from the core of communism and replacing it with social liturgical knowledge according to the capitalist structure. In other words, the guiding ideology for social issues is no longer purely based on ideology Communism too, but based on capitalism.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is the ministry with programs such as Poverty Alleviation, Elimination of Social Evils such as smoking, programs to care for the elderly, disabled, etc. And the Communist Party of Vietnam chose the United States as a sending cadres to study “key” fields that do not yet exist in Vietnam is a very official and strong demonstration of the radical change in the Vietnamese Communist’s trust in the “Social” ability of Communism. . The intellectual component of the Vietnamese Communist Party is no longer part of the ideological class of the MTD or Ho Chi Minh. (further reading material: “On the status of Vietnamese intellectuals”, Pham Thi Hoai)
III. RETURNING, WHAT IS THE PRODUCT OF CSVN IN THE SENTENCE
“INTELLIGENCE IS NOT AS VALUABLE AS DISTRIBUTION”
The Vietnamese Communist Party cannot exclude intellectuals from the leadership class. They may not recognize the role of this component, but they cannot survive without the contribution of this intellectual component.
On the contrary, later intellectuals, especially intellectuals trained from capitalist countries, saved the life of the Communist Party of Vietnam and changed the Communist Party of Vietnam in terms of core ideology, the “spearhead” ideology. ”, guidance for other thoughts.
Intellectuals are never less valuable than a piece of manure, but intellectuals have turned the Vietnamese Communist manure into fertilizer. The Vietnamese Communists have forgotten that the intellectuals brought these Vietnamese Communist fertilizers to the people, where the fertilizers have a place to be used. Without intellectuals, the Communist Party of Vietnam is just piles of dung without residue lying in open fields, then mortared and dissolved in the ground. Intellectual elements have been the catalysts for turning Vietnamese communist fuel into usable materials.
But reality has proven that the Vietnamese Communist Party is not as valuable as good fertilizer because if it were good, that fertilizer would bring benefits to the people. Strictly speaking, it is a type of fertilizer that contains a lot of acid, causing fruit trees to become limp and destroying crops.
“Intellectual people are not worth as much as a piece of shit” is a statement that is literally wrong. Literally, if poop is the daily waste product of every person, including intellectuals, then this poop cannot be more valuable than the person who discarded it. In other words, a fingernail cannot be more valuable than a hand.
In a figurative sense, if knowledge is not as valuable as a piece of dung, it is not true based on the current results of the Vietnamese Communist Party. Because the Communist Party of Vietnam considers intellectuals to be less valuable than a piece of shit, they only take advantage of them for help, need them in every difficult period of the party and then destroy them, so the result after 70 years under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam is Water is no better than the value of good fertilizer.
- “INtellectuals of the Vietnamese Communist Party” IN RECENT YEARS AND TODAY:
“RECOMMENDED INTELLECTUALITY” AND “RECOMMENDED INTELLECTUALITY”.
The first wave of “Vietnamese communist intellectuals” appeared and spoke up after many years of dormancy in 2009, when communist intellectuals signed to protest the signing of a contract for China to exploit quality mines. Aluminum manufacturing materials at high altitude in Central Vietnam. This group of reporters has presented convincing arguments about the dangers to Vietnam, from land contamination to national defense dangers. They presented a petition to the Vietnamese communist authorities asking the communists to clearly identify this danger and not let China exploit this land. Their voice came right after Vo Nguyen Giap spoke up asking the Communist Party of Vietnam to consider its decision. The results of this speaking out were not beyond the results of a series of “petitions” sent to the Communist Party of Vietnam to ask for reconsideration, because after that the people did not hear anything more from them. These petitioning intellectuals either felt reassured “because they had fulfilled their role as communist intellectuals after speaking up”, or were afraid after speaking up, so no one heard more about the recommendations. next, because there isn’t one.
The second wave of voices from the “Vietnamese communist intellectuals” was the voice of Huynh Tan Mam and people close to him with the same stance a few years later, speaking out about the dangers of China’s invasion of Vietnam’s East Sea. Male. The content and “manner” of speaking up is just a hope for the state to do things right. This group of “Vietnamese Communist intellectuals” only dare to hope that the party will reform and follow the socialist path, or in other words, they will only make “recommendations” to their superiors and leaders.
The third voice of the “Vietnamese communist intellectuals” was the voice of “”72 senior intellectuals” and “patriots” demanding that the party look straight at the current situation and change to suit the times, demanding change the constitution to suit the will of the people”. The results of these calls also do not go through the “petition” gate.
Recently, on May 26, 2015, we learned more about the views of the Communist Party of Vietnam through Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and through Prime Minister of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung (NTD) on the role of “Vietnamese Communist intellectuals”, as after:
According to NTD speaking at the meeting of the “Union of Science and Technology Associations of Vietnam (KHKTVN)” held on May 26, 2015, “… in recent years, implementing the policies and resolutions of the Party and the Union The Vietnam Association of Science and Technology Associations (Vietnam Science and Technology Association) has developed and become an organization with a system from central to provincial and city levels; uniting 2.8 million members, including over 1.5 million million intellectuals……” NTD proposed that in the next term, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations needs to do a better job of gathering and promoting all resources and intellectual potential of the nation, especially creative capacity of the intellectual team for the work of building and protecting the homeland and… Specifically, promoting the mobilization of scientific and technological intellectuals to promote creativity. Gather, unite and promote the team of Vietnamese scientific and technological intellectuals at home and abroad. Proactively gather a team of talented experts, leading scientists and managers with enthusiasm to do a good job of advising and advising the Party and State on major issues on policies, guidelines, and policies. national development policy. Continue to innovate operating methods to create a favorable environment and conditions to effectively promote the intellectual potential of intellectuals in the work of disseminating knowledge and applying it. Rapid advances and scientific and technological products into production and life. Actively provide critical consultation and social assessment ; Pilot organization of a professional scientific forum for intellectuals when participating in consulting, criticism and social appraisal activities on socio-economic development guidelines, policies and projects… NTD said: “I always remind Ministers to pay close attention to listening to criticism from intellectuals , scientists, and the country’s elite to make correct, accurate, and beneficial decisions. greatest benefit to the country”
Nguyen Phu Trong, also spoke at this meeting: “…The Union must truly be the core force, taking the lead in the cause of building a team of Vietnamese intellectuals, first of all the team of scientific intellectuals. At the same time, strive to gradually build a strong, high-quality intellectual team with reasonable quantity and structure, meeting the country’s sustainable development requirements,” NPT continued. : “…he ordered scientific intellectuals to proactively carry out consulting, criticism and social assessment activities in the process of building guidelines and policies of the Party and State, and programs , major socio-economic projects and projects”
Through the above two statements, we see that two things have been clearly defined: first, for the Vietnamese Communist Party, ” intellectuals” are only experts in various fields; Second, the role of “intellectuals” is only to “advise and give opinions” to the state, but these opinions do not have legal value or force the state to implement . The evidence is that these “intellectual” groups have given opinions about “Long Thanh airport”, “Highway” and many other projects, but no one listens or bothers to read because these opinions, no matter how thick they are, Thousands of pages and full of reasons why we should or shouldn’t, these are just “iguanas blocking the nose” of the government and interest groups that are sharing taxpayer money with each other through the above projects when implemented.
“Vietnamese communist intellectuals” do not need to think outside the bounds of communist ideology. The Communist Party has already thought for intellectuals all the things Communist intellectuals need to think and write, and all the things Vietnamese Communist intellectuals need to write are to prove and propagate Communist ideas and ideology. Stop. Thinking and writing without the party’s permission will mean you will be accused of no longer standing in the ranks of Communist intellectuals.
- WANT TO BECOME A TRUE INTELLECTUAL, YOU MUST STAND OUT OF THE Communist Party of Vietnam
The fact that more than 20 writers recently (mid-May, 2015) no longer wanted to be members of the Writers’ Association commanded by the Communist Party of Vietnam and wanted to become independent writers, not subject to the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is An important sign for rediscovering one’s true self. Writers who want to become a person with “individuality and independence to say what they think” cannot forever be sheep in the flock anymore. They need to separate from the flock to first become “lost sheep”. This solitary separation is always lonely and lost as well as dangerous, so this “lost” sheep needs to be joined by other sheep and the strength of the new flock will be formed.
These writers have expressed a basic and essential thing for an “intellectual” person, which is to abandon the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam after realizing mistakes, not just mistakes of the party. Communist Party of Vietnam, but the writer’s own mistake for still allowing himself to depend on the Communist Party of Vietnam when he clearly knew the wrong, anti-freedom, anti-democratic and anti-human rights nature of this organization. If we compare them to sheep, then these are not sheep that have gone astray, but sheep that do not want to follow leaders who are going astray, leading the nation into the control of Communist China, and is leading the country into regression, losing to both Cambodia and Laos in industry.
Abandoning the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam does not mean that the works of these writers will escape the censorship of the communist state; Therefore, these writers need to push their awareness to an even higher level, which is the “resistance” of the Communist Party of Vietnam that is imposing constraints and directing the direction of the writer’s comments on the problems of individuals, society and country. The Communist Party of Vietnam only wants “experts who advise and then serve them” which they call “high-ranking intellectuals”, people who can be called real intellectuals, real writers, not only Have the right to bring knowledge in all fields to serve the country, but also have the right to express your opinions in all fields to serve humanity in the media (books, newspapers, online newspapers, radio). , broadcasting,…). Whether or not their opinions are accepted and implemented by society, people and the country will be a measure of their intellectual level. The person who is called a “true intellectual” must be someone who has been trained and successfully contributed to the advancement of either the individual or society. Sometimes those successes may be based on comments and policies that are contrary to the policies or decisions of the authorities. If this rebellion happens, intellectuals must wholeheartedly defend and fight for their stance.
Confronting the leadership because of their independence of ideology and thinking in the country’s problems is the courage needed by true intellectuals, because if not, who will be the ones to change them? social change, change in the country that currently has serious problems among the majority of people, although on the surface, people still see the development of roads, bridges, houses, and many establishments. floors in big cities and the investments of most countries are in capitalism and freedom.
When confronting the Vietnamese Communist Party, intellectuals will suffer heavy losses, first in material rights, pensions, benefits and positions in communist society, and then in retaliation and punishment such as has happened in history. Therefore, most of the “so-called Communist intellectuals” stopped after sending the Communist Party of Vietnam “recommendations” and “open letters to the state”. They did not dare to take the decisive and necessary step to prove that they were “true intellectuals and patriots”. “The next step” is the transition from “word of mouth” to “action”. “Action” here does not necessarily mean commitment or protest, but just “continuing to speak up”.
In short, as long as you cooperate with the Vietnamese Communist Party and receive benefits from the Vietnamese Communist Party, you will never be a true “intellectual”, or in other words, want to become a true intellectual and have knowledge. and having intelligence, that person must stand outside the Communist Party of Vietnam. The nature of Communism is dictatorial, anti-liberal and anti-democratic, so the highly educated people who serve that nature can only be respected experts and not intellectuals because when they serving those who do not respect the values of freedom, democracy and humanity, how can these “party servants” have within themselves the values that their master protects and nurtures them? Have.
If we say the above, then naturally we assume that “freedom”, “democracy” are values that must be present in intellectuals. Educated and thoughtful communists will at some point realize the true value of their own freedom and that of others, and will use their personal freedom to courageously speak out to deny the Vietnamese Communist Party. , a ruling party based on anti-democracy and prohibition of freedom is leading the nation into continuous failures in terms of intellectual products, from 1945 until now, typical of this failure are the consequences. following result:
- Up to now, the Communist Party of Vietnam has not been able to make the minimum weapons to protect the country but has had to depend on other countries such as Russia, America, India, and Israel. When a country cannot protect itself, before or after, dependence on foreign countries is difficult to avoid
- The Vietnamese Communist Party also does not know how to develop talents to invent intellectual products to contribute to the world. The latest 2024 statistics from the reputable organization QS World University Rankings, listing the 100 best universities in the world out of 1,500 universities in 104 countries, regional countries such as Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, and South Korea are all on the list, and Vietnam does not have any schools ( https://www.alluniversity.info/world-top-100/ ). In fact, Vietnam is only contribute people’s labor to manufacture daily consumer products for foreign factories.
- The Communist Party of Vietnam has not yet used talented people to develop the country. These elements have sought to demonstrate their abilities in countries outside of Vietnam.
With that personal freedom, the so-called intellectuals of the Communist Party of Vietnam must objectively recognize the bad consequences that have occurred for the country in all aspects when compared with other comparable countries, and must learn about the What is the cause of that “backwardness”? Is it due to the Communist Party of Vietnam, or is it due to “hostile forces”, “movements demanding peace” or “movements and civil organizations”, inside and outside water? If a communist intellectual agrees that the Vietnamese Communist Party is the culprit for the country’s slow progress – intellectually, that person must have an attitude.
Quitting the Communist Party of Vietnam as soon as they – knowledgeable experts, know the truth about the Communist Party of Vietnam – is the first step to becoming a true intellectual. How to take this first step without falling into the abyss? They need not to turn around and continue to move forward and find ways to influence the way the Vietnamese Communist Party treats its experts so that the “brain matter” of Vietnamese people does not leak out of the country. Vietnamese people have intellectual ability but need a favorable environment to achieve two good results: a person with knowledge and contributions that demonstrate true ability, without restraint and control.
